The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes – Animation Review

A collection of heroes from Marvel Comics universe joined to protect the earth from the forces of evil, a pretty universal theme for superheroes worldwide. In this rendition they take from Avengers comics, from all time lines, and anthologies. At first I was reluctant, especially given it was under the wing of Disney, but all things considered it tops the cake of Marvel animation history. Now, I was a fan of the 1990’s X-men cartoon with the crazy costumes and bad voice acting, I remember being driven to wake up every Saturday morning, but do me the favor of going back and watching a few episodes, they weren’t the masterpieces I remembered. Other attempts to break back into animated comics have been disappointing, the cell shaded Spider-Man: The New Animated Series made my brain and eyes hurt, luckily it only lasted a season. Earth’s Mightiest Heroes is going on season two and its season one ending was strong to say the least, (SPOILER ALERT) thou I am not sure how they will let Iron Man keep a suit made out of the same metals as Mjölnir, Thor’s Hammer, and not be over powered. During the first season there were references to Captain America “inevitable” betrayal and with the surprise final seconds of season one, we may know what the time traveler Kang was complaining about. (SPOILER ALERT END)

One of my favorite aspects of this show: they are not shy about introducing new characters and bringing them back for later episodes. It’s not the usual serial cartoon we are use to, where each episode is separate with the exception of a few “to be continued…” you can still come in at any point and understand what’s going on but it has added dimensions with a overall story arc and integrated characters. Cameos are abundant, Fantastic four, Mocking Bird, Amora, X-men references, and my personal favorite Ultron.  The humor is fantastic, Hawk eye and Hulk dialog is priceless, Thor and Iron Man are always at ends one magical one tech based, Wasp and Giant-man have a love relationship that’s not over done, Black Panther fills out the team nicely and Captain America is the leader every team needs.  Even if you are not a cartoon lover you should check this one out bringing back the meaning of Saturday morning cartoons on Disney XD 11am/10c

I truly do love this show! It’s awesome! Finally Marvel can battle DC in the cartoon realm. I can’t wait til they add the rest of the avenger’s. Vision is my favorite!!
